Welcome to the Director’s Corner for the month of September. Well, it is the middle of the month and it is almost the start of Fall. For many of us this brings to mind falling leaves, falling temperatures, and hopefully, falling bowling pins as the Winter 2007-08 seasons kick into gear! Let’s hope we don’t have a lot of averages falling come April 15th!

Today, September 15th, is also a very special day for me as it is the 56th wedding anniversary of my parents, Don and Harriet Gottschall back in Cincinnati, Ohio! I want to wish both of them a very Happy Anniversary!

Speaking of anniversaries, the Golden Gate Classic will be celebrating its 23rd anniversary come June 2008 and we really hope that you will all come out and join us! We are right in the midst of selecting a host hotel in beautiful downtown San Francisco and also making the decision of which bowling center will be the site of our tournament! I will reveal all of this to you in the October column. There are literally hundreds of hotels in the San Francisco area and we are looking for one that is closer to the center of everything rather than out by the airport. However, this is San Francisco and hotels can be a bit more on the pricier side than many other cities. A nice room downtown will be about $180 - $200/night while one by the airport will be cheaper, but also further away! If any of our potential bowlers for the 2008 tournament have any thoughts on what they might prefer for hotel location, let us know! After all, it is your tournament and we want everyone to have a good time, but it is the out-of-town and out-of-state bowlers who need hotel rooms for the tournament. Drop us a line and help us pick the best spot!!

I hope to start meeting more of you at the Palm Springs tournament in October and hopefully at LASSI in November. Until then, have a great month and let’s get the new season started!
